Flights from Southeast Asia to Singapore: the best tips from KAYAK users

Insights shared by verified travelers who flew the route from Southeast Asia to Singapore
SyafiqahFlew with Singapore Airlines-Dec 2025
Take Scoot or SQ if flying to Bali. KLM tends to be full flight and their seats are narrow. their layout is 3-4-3 whilst SQ is 3-3-3. Opt for comfort always, coming from a person who goes to Bali
Verified travelerFlew with Scoot-Feb 2026
Get to the airport early. Long Q to clear immigration.

Check thoroughly for what is or is not available and check for hidden fees.
Verified travelerFlew with Singapore Airlines-Nov 2024
Be there early LONG LINES. If you want to experience the JEWEL At Singapore make sure u have a 6hr min layover. I suggest you get a locker for luggage. You do have to leave the airport and go thru immigration on your way out and back in. The lines are long.
Verified travelerFlew with Jetstar Asia-Mar 2024
Be prepared for long queue at the airport as, unlike other budget carriers, Jetstar doesn’t have automated check-in kiosks in Penang Airport.

The KLIA aerotrain is not running, make sure you have the right terminal and allow time to take the bus from the domestic to international terminal.

The A350 3-3-3 configuration is cramped and uncomfortable. The seats dig in to the contact points with your body. The aisles are now too narrow for passengers and crew to pass with ease. I was in an seat but the passenger in front was laid back for the majority of the flight meaning I had to do the same. There was a kid in the seat next to me who wriggled all night which kept waking me up. If fact there were too many kids on board - why weren't they at school? Babies crying too. It was like a Kindergarten. Singapore Airlines in barely getting above Jetstar these days. It seems to have gone downhill since merging with Air India, The evening meal of fish and noodles was average. the morning breakfast of a pie was poor. At least the alcohol flow kept some sanity. The film choice was good, but I'd already seen the good stuff on the way out. The crew are still amazing and the service set the airline apart. A shame about the packed plane with inconsiderate passengers.

Food was excellent.. better if there are more movies selection.

Had picked seats while booking tickets but airlines reshuffled the seats without informing and we were again left with the worst possible seats on the return journey. terrible experience.

I had the worst experience of my life in travel. Due to circumstances beyond my control (catastrophic traffic accidents on the highway between Gold Coast and Brisbane) I missed my flight for the first time ever. Because I booked through Kayak Singapore Airlines were not interested in helping me. They told me to contact the agent that I booked through. I was extremely stressed as I had connecting flights in Europe. First Kayak told me that the next available flights were in four days time. Then they told me that they could do it but at a cost of $2600 AUD. When I agreed he told me that he was having trouble getting it through Singapore’s system and he would contact me further once it had been done. When I had not heard from him after several hours, I phoned Kayak again, spoke to a different person who said he could do it for $8200. I declined and told him to cancel the booking. The worst part of this experience was that I had booked 5 flights altogether with Singapore including Premium Economy on two legs and Singapore cancelled all my flights including the return legs leaving me with having to completely reschedule my entire trip. Kayak refunded me $2000 from $5200, obviously leaving me out of pocket. This has left me feeling that I will never deal with Kayak or Singapore Airlines again.

Crew were so busy Anna so awesome. I was in a seat that got my food nearly last but the crew were Just awesome.

I had selected seats together for my family of three when I first booked my tickets in February. However, I realized only when I checked in at the airport that the seats I had selected were no longer assigned to us and we were completely scattered across three different middle seats instead of being seated together! After requesting the Singapore staff to have us seated together on a full flight, they managed to find something but it was right next to the rest rooms and the whole journey of 15+ hours was really unpleasant. They said that the seat selection isn't locked and the airline can reallocate the seats anytime. No one ever told us this and it was a terribly unpleasant surprise. Will avoid Kayak/underpricer and Singapore in future

Limited food options. I dont like chicken or even fish but that’s the only option. Sad to say not impress

Subject: Complaint Regarding Cabin Temperature on Flight SQ447 (DAC–SIN)** Dear Singapore Airlines Customer Service, I am writing to express my disappointment regarding my recent experience on flight SQ447 from Dhaka (DAC) to Singapore (SIN). After boarding, it became apparent that the cabin air conditioning was not functioning adequately. When we initially raised the concern, a flight attendant informed us that it would take approximately 10 minutes for the temperature to cool down once the aircraft began operating. We trusted this explanation; however, the cabin remained uncomfortably warm, and many passengers—including my family—were sweating for an extended period. After approximately 45 minutes, I raised the issue again. While the attendant mentioned that adjustments had been made, the response did not reflect the seriousness of the ongoing discomfort. It was only after about an hour into the flight that the temperature finally improved and the cabin became more comfortable. I also spoke with several other passengers seated nearby, and they confirmed they were experiencing the same issue. As a frequent traveler who has always associated Singapore Airlines with high standards of service, this experience was very disappointing. It has made me reconsider choosing this route with your airline in the future. I hope you will review this incident and take the necessary steps to ensure that such situations are handled more promptly and professionally going forward. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, Mohammed Shahriar

Flight attendants were awesome! Very helpful and patients. Some food were good but maybe not serving fish that kinda make the whole aircraft smell fishy. The “fried pork” was tasty but too much skin so it doesnt taste that great.

This is a very short commuter flight, so there is no food or flight entertainment. Hence, I marked it in the neutral flight left on time. The plane was full pretty much and it was a pretty easy flight overall very good.

Food and welcome services were good , however we experienced issues with the entertainment system and poor headsets

Lovely staff, comfortable seats. Transit time was short but they had great processes in place to get us on the plane.

2 hours delay, time changes started already 2 days before the flight

I bought the front row seat and made and early online check in but they changed my seat to the back row without prior notice. The inflight meal was too poor, only a piece of small finger food. The boarding is a disaster, everyone is stuffed in a bus in chaos. Doesnt worth the money at all.

Overall very nice airline. The seats were cloth unlike leather seats I am accustom to on planes. The food was adequate. I had to use a paper boarding pass as they do not like electronic boarding passes. I scanned my electronic pass, but the gate agent requested the paper pass. Luckily I had a paper pass, although my electronic pass worked and when the paper pass was scanned it stated I was already on board.

I had sometimes my trips with Vietnam Airlines and I like it 😊

There was no entertainment and food option limited But the service was first class on an economy flight

Flight was good but they cancelled return direct flight so they provide us connecting flight through hanoi

VN661 flight, the A321 seats are starting to show heavy sign of wear and tear

I like the pleasantness of how courteous and friendly and helpful everyone is

Everything was fantastic!!!! I can’t wait to fly home 😃!!!!!

Going to Dumaguette 4 times in a row I was late it's terrible

Expensive and yet uncomfortable. Was told by the crew to get back to us for the breakfast meal but never returned, my child was hungry

So far pal express is much better than Cebu pacific in terms of customers service and in flight crew. And on time departure and arrival . Especially if you're taking airbus 320 plane . But the small aircraft like bombardier . It usually delayed .

The crew were lovely and also attentive. The food was overcooked and hard to enjoy. Slept well enough .....so the seats are comfortable for sleeping and sitting.

I was thrilled with this flight and look forward to flying again with Philippine Airlines in the near future…thank you

Entertainment system in business class was broken. Not available during the entire trip. WIFI was difficult, kept disconnecting and required new passcode to re-connect (at additional cost, even if yo had already paid for the entire flight). In business class, they gave me free passcode, but I needed 4 of them to keep connected the entire flight.

Everything was ok except that one of my checked in baggage which was new lost 2 of its wheels and so I filed a complaint and hope they would give comoensation. otherwise, everything was good!

Excelling flight, excellent landing. Good foods. My only complain that I paid for my seat and my seat was beside the restroom. Flight attendant are friendly.

We were allowed to board early, seats were spacious and we arrived early.

No entertainment and not expected. Cabin was very cold which brought the comfort score down

Kind of worried due to typhoon but yeah we can't do about nature thing. So okay naman kudos to all crews and pilots for the safe landing.

Can buy food instead of online order. Maybe limit the meal so no waste.

Delays on the tarmac, uncomfortable even after paying extra for premium seats. Bags lost in transit, no compensation provided

The seats are too cramped, there is barely enough room to shift weight. This could be easy to endure in a one-hour flight, but not more than that. The crew did not clean up shortly after meals. The tray table remained open because of the meal and ate up what is left of the little seating space. The crew were just idling by for 45 minutes before they collected the trash. The airline did not inspect carry-on luggage. Most of the passengers brought too many bags, too large and/or over the weight limit. This undermines safety and discourages those who pay extra for checked bags just to comply with the airline regulations. If the airline is not inspecting carry-on luggage, why should I pay more just to check in some bags?

The front desk and early check in was fantastic and the flight did not have any turbulence

Flight was delayed for almost 30 minutea, I had difficulties to catch up the connecting flight. Bit due to tje well organized Singapore airport I was able to make it

Was denied early boarding for a hot seat row 1C. I asked gate attendant why I couldn’t I board as I paid extra for that seat and it’s privileges that come from purchasing it. and she said no that Cebu Pacific does not allow it. When I boarded plane finally I had nowhere to put my bag as the seats behind me had taken my overhead area. The flight attendant said that the gate attendant was wrong. I fly a lot in the philippines and to Japan and now I have no choice but to fly with Air Asia. At least they board with zones and allow rows 1-3 to board early.

Flight was 2 hours delayed. No explanation provided. Gates changes twice.

For a low cost airline they provide excellent value and modern planes. It did not feel cheap. But onboard drinks and meals are expensive and do not offer great value. Overall, a good experience.

Crew, friendly On board services: terrible: no movies, no screen, no entertainment over wifi, no free water. Totsl Entrapment

Boarding was not as per sequence Light snacks were not available Window had hair oil stains and water condensation

Apart from the staff at the airport who were amazing the rest of the experience with scoot was disgusting a very basic flight packed and uncomfortable no consideration to a disabled traveller. And even worse from Singapore to Vienna. All about the money. Not even a complementary coffee or juice. From the airline. The staff at the airport didn't look at me as been disabled and no help not even a wheelchair was offered. The food on the plane was cheap and tasteless and expensive no entertainment on plane and WiFi which had to be paid for was intermittent at best.

I have taken more than 50 flights in the past year and this is the worst onboard experience that I've come across. There's always a risk with budget airlines and their creative views of customer service. Having bought a standard seat, we boarded at the assigned seat - we naturally couldn't choose ourselves as that would be extra cost. After take-off, the person in the row in front leans back their seat. As a frequent flyer, I believe this is their right, so I try to lean my seat back as well to have the same space available. However, my standard seat could not lean back, as the row behind was an exit row. As I had paid for a standard seat, not a less space than standard, I moved to the completely free row behind me. This was not allowed, as due to extra legroom, this would cost extra. Subsequently spent the next 30 mins discussing this scenario with the crew. I have no issues with budget airlines and additional charges, but if I pay for a standard seat, I want a standard seat, not one with less space. As you do not offer me a discount for the less space, do not try and charge me a premium, when I find a free seat with more space. It works both ways Scoot.

Finishes were quite worn, including our very scratched up seatback. No entertainment available, and the WiFi (even for “ScootHub”) was very slow. Crew were somewhat friendly.

Not a frequent user of their website booking. Booked my check-in baggage and only realized that I did not book my check in baggage for return flight. The receipt was not clear in identifying that as well. Was charged exorbitantly at check in counter. Bad taste for sure when it is a business trip and not leisure trip. Baggage was delayed for more than an hour at belt back in SG.

Boarding took forever. It's also weird that we paid more (for preferred seats) to get on the plane last. Inflight WiFi never worked the entire trip. I want my money back.

WiFi didn’t work on both sectors so made killing time harder - planes clean modern and good flight crew - would do again if WiFi works

We had 2 attempts to land at Singapore Changing during a thunderstorm. Everything was delayed by 1 hour plus.
