Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "Overall price / value is very good"
Cons: "Leg room is very small"
Pros: "Nothing. It's cheap and really not because you pay for everything extra."
Cons: "Rude customer service. Baggage cost more than the flight."
Cons: "More choices on entertainment"
Cons: "On time"
Pros: "Very good for the price I paid"
Cons: "Somehow I couldn't check in online, or at the kiosk. There was only 2 check-in desk for domestic flights in KLIA2. Long lines and waited 20 minutes. Thankfully the staff at the counter allowed me to check in, despite having only 50 minutes to spare."
Pros: "The new seats are good. I didn't get any back pain."
Cons: "Not much."
Cons: "We paid $37 to check in 1 Baggage and the flight from SFO to Beijing had delivered the baggage in baggage claim area. We had to take Chinese Visa to get to the baggage, even-though it is a transit. We missed the next connecting flight to Shenzhen as it ate up all our time. Now have to travel in the mercy of the airlines for next flight. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LIST THAT "VISA NEEDED IF CHECKING IN BAGGAGE" MISSED ALL FLIGHTS"
Cons: "Luggage check-in weighs luggage 22 kilos more than its actual weight and I was asked to pay almost RM650 ~ ($170), when I was asked to recheck they had to pull my luggage back and that took almost 40 minutes to later know that they made a huge mistake! 20 minutes to the boarding time I got confirmation that my luggage weights are correct and given a boarding pass to gate P11. walked to gate P11 and saw no one there, and there were no signs of what was happening, I checked Kayak app then I noticed that they changed the gate to L10 which is a totally different building ( 16 minutes before gate closure ), I had to run the whole airport to go to gate L10. not to mention that flight was delayed by a good 1 hour!"
Cons: "I was sold an empty Marshall 111 box in a sealed Duty Free bag or 136 USD. COMPLAINED WHEN DISCOVER AT HOME THAT NIGHT. SINCE THEN GIVEN THE RUN AROUND"
Pros: "Nothing. We arrived safe"
Cons: "First of all it left late with no explanation. One hour late. Crew did almost nothing. No food at all unless preordered. Not even awater. Lights out for no reason. It was as t even 7:30 when they dimmed the long guts. Only one bathroom in the back and we never saw someone go forward so we were t sure if there was one in the front. Very tight seats."
Pros: "I will say that the AirAsia crews do save the day. This is my first time flying AirAsia on a 3 leg trip (currently on leg 2) and the crew members have been absolutely awesome and stellar."
Cons: "I’m just a BIG guy so space is my overall complaint. But as my first experience with AirAsia, it has not been a great one. First my initial flight kept being delayed and delayed until it was actually canceled. Then my second leg of my vacation trip, again, delayed and they just had us standing in line waiting to board our flight. Again I give praise to the wonderful crew members for the stellar and comforting service. They truly are the reason I have not given up on AirAsia just yet. Now I do have one leg left, my tip home...I’m hoping that this one will be the overall best experience for my AirAsia. I’m praying for an on time departure, and another wonderful staff and just a tiny bit more leg space. Wish me luck"
Pros: "On time"
Cons: "I was separate with my wife even if similar seats were available. To be with her, i had to pay."
Cons: "It was a night flight. Inflight light was on almost throughout the entire flight."
Pros: "Price. Number of flights."
Cons: "The 7kg hardline AFTER doing the document check nearly caused me to miss my flight thus potentially missing a connection. If AsiAsia are going to keep to this 7kg hardline they really need to do it across all airports and do it during the document check so the number of queues costumers are subjected to are minimized. I did purchase extra weight when purchasing the ticket however that weight MUST be in checked bags only. No margin here for discussion. Perhaps HotSeat passengers are less scrutinized??? This all may be just some transitional pains here and other airlines may follow the same model but in my 200+ flights on Nok Air this has NEVER happened. In fact, they (Nok) have NEVER weighed my carry on bag. Such a shame as the rest of the flight experience was above average. This hardline approach will be an issue if they continue until they beat their customers into taking or leaving it in my opinion. First AirAsia flight for me so the vets reading this will be smiling quietly to themselves ;-)"
Cons: "They changed the time without announcing anyone. Each day the flight is at a different time."
Pros: "Overall in flight experience quite good."
Cons: "Flight Delayed twice for boarding to and come BKK. Abit disappointed for not time. As.it ruined my initial planning and wasted so valuable time to visit new exploring place in bkk."
Cons: "The flight was damn cold and freezing"
Pros: "Good: cheap and on time. Bad: aways slow check-in and uncomfortable seating. Everything a budget airline should be."
Pros: "The plane didn't crash."
Cons: "Boarding was late and terribly disorganized - just a person yelling row numbers who could barely be heard. The airline makes you pay for water, which is simply inhuman - at least cattle in transport are given free water from time to time. It was a five-hour flight at night but we couldn't put the seats back to relax - the exit row was behind us and they've got the seats crammed in so tight together that they don't give the exit row any extra room to accommodate this, like most airlines. There are ads plastered all over the storage compartments. Recorded announcements threatened us with dire consequences if we stole the life vests (is that a thing people do?!). Everything looks cruddy, dingy and old. It feels like a cheap city bus, but in the air. At the end of the flight the crew walked through fumigating the cabin with spray cans of who-the-hell-knows-what and we had to breathe THAT in. We won't even consider Air Asia again unless there are literally no other possible choices. Just awful."
Cons: "Crew was not helpful"
Pros: "Almost on all regional flghts i had to pay as much for my luggage as for my ticket."
Cons: "Luggage scheme."
Pros: "Staff was very attentive and well trained! Arrived without any delays. Everything was great!"
Pros: "Being updated of the status of flight periodically"
Cons: "Airport was crowded. As many other flights were delayed too."
Pros: "On time.. .short flight"
Cons: "Cramped seats"
Cons: "Badly managed check-in queue even for online checked passengers doing bag drop - 3 hours before departure at NAIA 3. There was no announcement from airline staff or anyone for that matter at the gate that the plane will be delayed. Plane departed 2 hours late and sitting in the tarmac with poor cooling inside the plane. Badly managed budget airline."
Cons: "Late. As always."
Cons: "Flight was delayed twice. We missed our connecting flight and the next flight wouldn't be until the next day. Customer service was ridiculously slow."
Cons: "No attention to our needs. I booked a wheelchair for my mom from manila to bkk. No wheelchair was provided from malaysia to bkk. I even push my mom in manila airport coz they said they dont have enough staff. My mom had a stroke and she walked all the way in kuala lumpur. What a lousy airline you have"
Pros: "Good because of direct flight"
Pros: "wifi. while boarding staff try to sort us with seats numbers, good, but the procedure should be improved. friendly staff."
Cons: "boarding was delayed till last minutes before takeoff. no meal included in ticket (ok, it's a lowcoster)."
Pros: "Cabin crew ok Check in online nice E-boarding pass nice"
Cons: "Boarding by zone is not effective. Wifi in boarding room in jakarta was too slow"
Pros: "I guess it's cheaper."
Cons: "Carriage door was squeeking loudly when it was opened and closed before take off and after arrival. Gave me the creeps. Flight was delayed without prior notice."
Pros: "On time"
Cons: "The leg room is deplorable. My knees were continuously hitting the hard seat in front of me and going sideways wasn't even an option. I've never had this happen to me before. I'm a female and 5'9 and this is the least space I've ever had on a flight. So uncomfortable I can't imagine a long flight with this airline, which is good to know because now I will not use them for flying to Malaysia from NYC. Also both flights were delayed by nearly an hour each."
Pros: "Air Asia! Ground staffs are good service and helpful."
Cons: "It was one hour late"
Pros: "New aircraft A320-200 NEO"
Cons: "Flight delay without information. Delay almost 1:45hrs."
Pros: "On time flight. Pleasant attendants"
Pros: "Ease of web checkin but it took too long to drop off luggage"
Cons: "No inflight entertainment. Had to buy food including all beverages."
Cons: "Bag fees not clear and totally unreasonable, no way to check in or check bags online unless you register with their nosy BIG Points. Late by 1.5 hours! Can't get ANYTHING to eat or drink without paying in local currency cash, not even water. Seats squished together and really uncomfortable. Baggage takes a long time to come out. Poor wayfinding at Kuala Lumpur Airport."
Pros: "Hard to complain about a $100 USD flight."
Cons: "KLIA 2 does take some time to get from the entrance to the gate. Once at the gate though the flight was delayed 45 minutes."
Cons: "Not great seats for comfort"
Pros: "it was a very nice and clean plane."
Cons: "They dont give anything complimentary - not even drinks or water!"
Pros: "cant think of anything."
Cons: "the air asia klia2 terminal is a dump. the gate seats are rock hard/uncomfortable. the air con in the terminal was set too cold. I think the check-in baggage fee was too high. if I would have ordered food the price would have been close to ctrip fairs, and on those flights u might get entertainment. I don't think I saved that much to not consider other carriers next time."
Pros: "Clean plane"
Cons: "Charged for everything . We paid $1.50 USD for a small cup of tea."
Pros: "It was nice to see a vegetarian option on an in flight menu. The vegetarian curry was nice."
Cons: "We arrived a full 2 hours before our flight, as did many other people. Unfortunately, as they only had 2 people working at the check-in desk, we waited in line for over an hour to get checked in. Everyone was telling the staff that we were all at risk of missing our flight (as we still needed to clear security and immigration), however nothing changed. The girls behind the desk seemed genuinely flustered and sorry about the situation, but unfortunately no one else came to support. We made our flight by the skin of our teeth, but it seems that people in line behind us weren't so lucky."
Cons: "Ramp instead of stairs. Offer free drinks"
Cons: "Poor airport, stranded in lines for 2.5 hours and almost missed the flight."
Pros: "On time"
Cons: "Seats too small for 6’ person"
Cons: "No indication that the flight would be delayed was given until way late in the game. We could have taken our time getting from one terminal to another and saved on an expensive taxi ride had we known. The crew were being unreasonable to a couple of passengers for moving to an empty row. Seems like that would do the plane a favor by evening out the weight distribution."
Cons: "Delay Delay Delay"
Pros: "On time and efficient"
Pros: "The crew was excellent and comfort was good."
Cons: "It wasn’t so much AsiaAir as it was the terminal. Terminal 4 in Manila is a mess as far as trying to check in. There isn’t enough room for the amount of flights boarding there."
Pros: "The comfort of the seat, its wider... Since I am broad shouldered I need a comfy seat."
Cons: "We just landed and the two cabin crews were chatting. One passenger stood up since she couldn't hold it and that she really needs to vomit one cabin crew laughed loud when the guest went inside the restroom. Maybe the cabin crew was surprised, but it wasn't a good to see."
Pros: "Flight was on time. Check in was ok iwith all our checked in bags tagged as Fragile to signify priority baggage that came with our AirAsia Visa credit card perks. Boarding was slightly chaotic."
Cons: "Room for improvement for priority checked in baggage upon arrival in Manila -- only 1 out of our 5 priority bags came out first while the other 4 came in last together with all the other non-priority bags."
Pros: "Very good, I like Air Asia"
Pros: "Professional flight attendants, very good and efficient check-in, food on-Board was acceptable."
Cons: "Narrow seats, cramped, flight time change, gate changes, crazy and inefficient terminal in KL with long walks."
Cons: "Delayed 30min The Manila Domestic terminal is really bas"
Pros: "Nothing but cheap airfare"
Cons: "No entertainment had to buy coffe food and water"
Cons: "Everything. A disaster of communication, service and staff instructed to lie about consumer rights so that passengers are discouraged from asking for compensation"
Pros: "Food was tasty, check-in was simple, flight arrived on time."
Cons: "None - no entertainment but didn’t expect any on budget airline."
Cons: "I booked through kayak which redirected to kiwi. On the boarding pass it gave the wrong terminal (domestuc terminal, when i was flying internationally) then to find out the terminal got updated online. In addition, the flught was delayed and gates were changed and i found out AFTER i already boarded the plane. Terrible."
Pros: "Fast boarding"
Cons: "Significant delays."
Cons: "Four hour delay, stuck on board the plane with nothing to drink."
Pros: "Flew on time , cabin crew charming . Flight just 1 hour so no time for food or entertainment. Arrived on time ."
Cons: "Nothing to criticise"
Pros: "Not much"
Cons: "We were delayed for 2 hours and we were not offered anything while waiting. Staff were not very helpful"
Cons: "2 hours delay, changed gate twice"
Pros: "Flight time Cost"
Cons: "They don’t fly from Clark to KL Seat pitch excruciating for most average height people Particularly on a four hour flight Everything is penny pinched Crew are verging on brusque Some very loud music on boarding with some American rap music, hardly appropriate on a south east Asia airline"
Pros: "Cabin is well air conditioned."
Cons: "No notice of slight flight delayed. Comfort rooms are not clean and some have no running water."
Pros: "I always like the flight attendants. The staff at Air Asia was great in helping me book an alternative flight because of flight delays from China."
Cons: "The flights are always delayed."
Cons: "Flight was delayed due to no fault of Air Asia, however, the passengers were not being informed of said delays, that many passengers started to flock to the boarding gate thinking the flight is about to board. Resulting to people standing around, due to lack of seats in the boarding area and making people who were probably happily seated at the other parts of the airport lose their seats as they anticipated boarding. I found out about the delay through my Kayak App and it took a long while before Air Asia made announcements. The flight was delayed about 3 hours."
Pros: "Charge for drink as well as food. One drink should be free. My overweight fee was more than a second passenger ticket would have been"
Cons: "Overweight baggagefee EXCESSIVE."
Cons: "Act to us like we are stupid and inssit the weight each bag. The check in crew gave us bad vibe. Like they got somtging with us."
Pros: "They have online check in."
Cons: "Scheduling. Flight was scheduled initially at 3:30PM , moved to 5:50 and finally left past 8PM."
Pros: "The ladies at the counter were helpful and got me on earlier flight because mine was delayed for 3rd time."
Cons: "Always delay. Worst airline ever! I will not book Airasia again."
Cons: "Delays, seats are poor, unclean. Leg room is too little.very bad customer service"
Cons: "flight from puerto princesa to manila was delayed by four hours and we missed connection to Europe. We had to stay other terrible day in Manila and had to buy a new expensive ticket :-("
Pros: "The people are so nice!"
Cons: "The flights were often hours late."
Cons: "Was charged for baggage for child even tho she had paid same fare as adults - staff said child not eliginle for carry on baggage allowance"
Pros: "Made a reservation at a time because we were flying in from elsewhere. They moved our flight time up 2 hours, canceled all the later ones, and they were 30 minutes away from where we landed 1 1/2 hours before. We called and got no help. Had to pay $25 for a ripoff taxi to get us there on time. Then they were 40 minutes late anyway. No complimentary anything, no water nothing just buy buy buy."
Pros: "Staff at the checkin counter were very polite and very reassuring - although as I checked in they didn't mention that the flight would be delayed"
Cons: "Flight was delayed over an hour with no explanation."
Pros: "There was not much I liked about this flight. However was was rather inexpensive to pay for baggage prior to getting to the airport."
Cons: "I hate the fact that food, including water, was only available for purchase. It was a very tight squeeze sitting on this plane. My seat didn't hardly recline."
Pros: "Old plane and seats in Row 14 were broken and angled down so you practically slid off the seat! Flight crew all knew about it and said nobody has fixed it yet for a while!"
Cons: "Did not fly Due to 2 delays and after waiting in departure area for 5 hours ++ I decided not to fly. Had to go through Immigration to re enter Manila Very disappointed, no airline reps available to talk to. Had hotel pre paid in Macau, all up lost AUD$2400."
Pros: "Getting to my Destination"
Cons: "Flight was delayed 4 hours they said due to congestion, however at least 4 other flights left before us going to Hong Kong that were not delayed. The staff at the counter lined everyone up to board only to hand out free water and cake send us back to our seats. The plane wasn't even there yet. Everyone was very confused and upset. After finally boarding the plane it was dirty. Tray table wad really sticky and there was a used cup in my seat I had to remove before sitting. Also my seat did not recline so I was very uncomfortable with small amount of leg room. The flight was supposed to land in Hong Kong at 7:15 by the time we got to hotel it was 1:30am. It's a shame I had to pay for the whole night at the Hotel."
Cons: "flight schedule was a disaster. from 230pm-545pm-730pm and finally departs 10pm. due to cancelled flights and delays, there's only one boat travelling from caticlan to boracay. we reach the hotel around 5am. same thing when we fly back 430 hours delay. I'm not going to book airasia anymore and tell my friends not to book airasia."
Pros: "The price was low, but I believe there were other airlines in the same price range."
Cons: "Both flights were delayed for over an hour. They did not report all the delays to the flight status sites. I think it was in an effort to keep their on time percentages higher. Choose a different airline if you prefer to be on time."
Pros: "LOW fares"
Cons: "Hey I know its the Philippines, I've been here many times, but ALL of the Air Asia flights were delayed, ours 2 hours...we flew Air Asia to Kalibo last week, delayed 4 hours. But Cebu Pacific flights were all delayed too. Just prepare for long waits at waiting area. Ferry boats are often cancelled or delayed too, its just the way it is here in the PI."
Pros: "The bad started at the ticket counter where I received a $135 baggage fee. There website is specifically constructed to hide baggage allowances. The flight was approximately two hours later commuting due to "late turns on previous sectors." Updates were not provided so you had to sit for hours in the gate listening to constant gate calls for other flights. There is essentially no restaurants on the concourse. Inflight meals were all pay as you go. I was not asked if I wanted a meek, I guess because I wasn't Filipino. Filipinos around me were offered meals. Never again!"
Pros: "Food was actually pretty good, for an airline that is. F/A's were very polite, and professional."
Cons: "First flight was delayed 2 1/2 hours. Second flight was delayed 3 1/2 hours. Seats were very uncomfortable. Head rest doesn't adjust. Lost my phone on the airplane back to Manila. I tried to call Air Asia, and they sent me to airport lost and found. Airport lost and found sends me to Air Asia,........... after about 10 times of doing that I finally got an Air Asia rep on the phone to take me seriously. But she didn't see too concerned or interested in finding my phone for me. I told her to check the plane, and contact me if they found it or not....... NO reply! So I called back the day after, and again, got the run around...... Now, this second assistant I told the same thing. No communications or customer care with this airline. I worked for the airlines for 14 years, and I could check a plane for a cell phone in about 10 minutes, and get back to you... Air Asia that's like pulling hens teeth!"
Pros: "Nothing good!"
Cons: "Every flight I took through them was delayed several hours, very rude flight atttendants. I wish I could get my money back. The plane was super dirty, and in disrepair, I feared for my life the whole flight."
Pros: "The staff were amazingly nice and professional. The flight wasn't full, so I had an entire row to myself. They even gave me exit row, so I had extra room."
Cons: "The flight was delayed 3 hours. We boarded late, but even once we boarded we waited even longer before taking off. Food was only for pay (even with the delay). No entertainment in the headrest."
Pros: "Air Asia said, my ticket was refunded back to my account, I called my card company and talked to the air Asia crew teller at the airport's counter at the same time. My card said, my purchased went through successfully but air Asia at Manila airport didn't understand that! My parents went home straight front the airport frustrated!! So I had to purchased another plane tickets with anothe airline, and now they're enjoying Macau and Hong Kong!! I will not give you my business ever again and my whole family. :( P.s I even got a flight reminder email on 1/22/16 and their flight with you was supposedly yesterday 1/28/16. -not a happy customer-"
Cons: "THERE IS NO FREE CHECK BAGS, I HAD TO PAY FOR 2 CHECKED BAGS BECAUSE THEY SAID THEY ARE TOO BIG TO BE CARRY ON. NO FREE BEVERAGE OR SNACKS FOR THE FLIGHT AND EVEN WHEN I ASKED FOR HOT WATER FOR MY BABIES MILK, THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE SOMETHING FIRST BEFORE GIVING ME HOT WATER! WHEN I ASKED TO BORROW A PEN THEY ALSO WANTED ME TO PAY FOR THE PEN! MOST RIDICULOUS AIRLINE I HAVE EVER RODE IN. NEVER AGAIN."
Pros: "Attentive and approachable"
Cons: "Just the departure too delayed"
