If the journey is as important as the destination, then it already failed the minute I was seated in a very intimate setting alongside strangers and seeing the economy class fully booked. The airline defended this by saying they have special economy seats but I complained that this is not equitable since the seats are limited and not everyone could afford an upgrade. Even if they could, the passengers would still be seated side by side and the total number of passengers aboard a tight and enclosed space or load factor is still very high. The airline’s policy was so inconsistent with the very rigid rules of the different government agencies upon disembarkation."

After looking at other options, I discovered PAL's direct flight from Los Angeles to Manila was the best option so I took a chance. From the moment I check in at the ticket counter in Los Angeles until we landed in Manila, I received exceptional service, tasty food and a clean environment. They took longer than necessary to rebook people to other flights. Completely horrible. I have another flight booked with PAL that I can no longer cancel, but after that one, never flying them again!"

EVA Air and Phillipine Air have limited hours, When I could not reach either by phone, I had to go to the Cebu airport to make sure I had a flight, ONLY to find that they were both closed with VERY limited hours! I arrived 4 hrs early for my flight to be sure I had time to make arrangements for a ticket!"

Flight attendant assured me multiple times they would hold the connecting plane, and give us an escort off the plane to make it to the other gate as fast as possible. We arrive in Manila, and there is no special escort. They take us at a regular pace to a connections desk in the terminal. They delayed helping us so we missed the only other flight leaving that night for Bali. While the person at the transfer desk was supposed to be helping us get new connecting flights, they would stop helping us, and take care of other people that showed up at the desk. It took them 1 1/2 hours to rebook our flight. They tried to put us on a flight that took over 20 hours with connections for a direct flight we had missed that would take about 4 hours of flying. We had to get on Kayak.com ourselves to find a better connecting flight that left the next morning. After 1 1/2 hours, the attendant finally put on a flight that was similar to the one we found but slightly worse. They said they could not work with certain airlines leaving from Manila, which I did not understand. Then, they proceed to tell us to go wait in the terminal overnight for the flight leaving the next day. We had to directly ask them to give us a hotel room for the night, which they did upon our request, but were not going to offer it without us asking for it. I understand delays and missed flights are part of air travel. But we were routinely lied to, ignored, and flat out pushed aside during the rebooking process. It was a completely unacceptable way to treat a customer. Never fly Philippine Airlines if you can avoid it."

Finally someone arrives and everyone ran in line. We boarded our flight 0950 which was the time our flight was supposed to take off. Our flight was Boracay to Manila. At Manila we were supposed to take our final flight to JFK. So I talked to the male flight attendant and explained to him the situation. He told me we would be leaving shortly and assured me we would make our next flight. Then another gentleman wearing ground crew's uniform came on the plane and asked us for our names and next flight's information. He told us he would send an email to Eva Air to let them know to hold our flight. He also told that he would make sure our luggage was unloaded first and that he was calling ahead so someone could meet us and give us a ride to terminal one which is where our flight would be waiting for us. When we arrived to Manila our luggage was not unloaded first, no one at customer service was waiting for us or had heard that we needed help ahead of time, in fact we has to wait behind a large crowd at the customer desk and when we finally got someone's attention and explained our urgency they pointed to the exit door. We walked over and had to again explain our situation to the officer who let is walk through. We had to pass our luggage through an X-ray and again explain to another person our situation who told us to wait for a bus. We sat waiting for a bus that finally came and slowly, ever so slowly, took the longest route around the entire airport, then around the entire tarmac which took over an eternity finally dropped is off at the main entrance. When we walked in Eva Air counter was closed. We had to walk to their customer service office and they informed they had no idea what emails were supposed to be sent on our behalf and that in the system it appeared our flight had been on time. The next flight isn't until the next day. There are no other flights. We spoke with a representative from Philippines airlines who overall said that it was not their problem and offered no solutions whatsoever. I've now missed an important final exam which means I'm going to fail a class, not that Philippines air could care. Luckily Eva Air representatives were more than accommodating and continually apologized for our inconvenience and rebooked us on the next flight even though the best they could do was the next day."

Cebu Pacific (MNL) required our umbrella to be checked-in without incurring additional expense since it does not make sense to charge us because the umbrella price is way less than the shipping cost. However, Cebu Pacific (SGN) Counter Supervisor was rigid and unprofessional; she wouldn’t listen to reasons and logic. She said that this is SGN and not MNL and therefore, its totally different. She was correct because we were able to go home and security did not say anything about our umbrella. Basically, we do not have to check-in our umbrella in the first place. But the Supervisor was adamant and combative regarding our umbrella. We told her we’ll just throw it in the trash can instead of shipping it."
Cons: "Our flight was cancelled because of weather condition while we were at the boarding gate, they didn't care about compensations or consider not risking putting the passengers under last minute pressure, at least they should've notified us ahead of time, they automatically rolled us in the next flight, however, they didn't confirm if the next flight will be cancelled or not. In order to make sure I can catch my connecting flights, I booked another flight from Legazpi to Manila on a different airline, in addition, I had to pay the hotel booking cancellation fees in Manila, since these fees can only be waved if I cancelled 24hrs in advance. Moreover when I asked for my ticket refund, they made a big deal out of it and after a ruff struggle they agreed to refund me, but whatever the refund amount was, it barely covers anything of what I had to pay for a new ticket+ 1 extra night stay in Legazpi + hotel cancellation fees in Manila, I ended up paying 400USD in total while I only got around 50USD ticket refund from them, and of course, add to that the stress and hassle I went through in doing this!"

No food (unless you had pre-booked it) and then you had to pay for water.....a new level of low class in low class airlines."

Most American airlines offer this and it's expected from most foreign passengers. Secondly, our plane was delayed about 5 hours for "traffic congestion" at Manila Airport. It looks like they only have one plane that travels the Puerto Princessa to Manila route so keep that in mind if you need to be somewhere on time. Philippines Airlines and Cebu Pacific Air had multiple planes coming and going durongbthis delay. I saw not a single AirAsia plane durong this delay. They sent an update email about a week or so that the flight was being moved up 2 hours, but no text saying that the flight was delayed. We could've spent an extra half day in El Nido if we had known. But still, I would probably fly with then again."

Cons: "I received 3 emails alerting me to the fact the flight was delayed. The first blamed operations and estimated a 45 minute delay, the next 2 had the same explanation but with a 1.5 hour delay. The final count was almost 5 hours. The terminal was sterile looking with awful lighting, and uncomfortable benches. There was no wifi (free or for a charge), and updates from the ground crew were few and far between and generally only happend after a question from a customer . They provided a meal due to the delay(there is no food in the terminal except a small kiosk that closed earlier that evening), but a greasy chicken leg and ball of white rice don't do much to make up for losing 4 hours of sleep before a 20 hour trek to America the next day (rather the same day as we got in at 330 am). We will never fly through manila or kalibo again as a result of this trip, and never again fly airasia."

Cons: "I've taken AirAsia twice on my travels in the Philippines, one of the times, the flight was very very delayed.The other, they changed the flight time 2 hours AHEAD of schedule and made that flight the last flight out for a day. Called the customer service hotline and they have terrible customer service, did not really come up with any solutions and I was placed on hold numerous times for a very long time. I ended up having to wait until the next day to get on a flight, which made me lose a day at my other destination."
