Cons:There is NO thrifty car rental at quito airport. We had a reservation that was confirmed in person in December and when we returned to pick up the car in February we were told thrifty had been replaced by europcar and they would not honor our price and we were charged 3 times what the reservationReviewed Mar 5 2019

Terrible car, terrible servicePros:NothingCons:The car was horrible. A Chevy Spark with bad brakes and all banged up. I wanted to cancel the reservation and they told me they couldn't refund me for 10 days. They made me wait an hour just to tell me they couldn't simply refund my money while constantly trying to upsell me. Horrible experience.Reviewed Jul 21 2017

Car broke down in 20 minutes of pick up and ridiculed in spanishPros:NothingCons:Everything was horrible. Service, the quality of cars were miserable. the first car that I got broke down within 20 minutes in the middle of the highway and the replacement refused to go above 40 km/hr. The customer care giggled throughout my panic stricken phone call when the car broke down in the middle lane of a highway when cars were moving at 90km/hr. The engine started emitting smoke. The local agency officials giggled and ridiculed me, in Spanish language assuming that I do not understand anything, for being a women driver. I had to ask them to stop and remind them that I do understand the language even if I do not speak it. Then the giggling and smiling stopped. They refused to return the car before the contract was up. But I could not drive the car cause it was in such a bad condition. They have sexists employees who spent more time making fun of me than trying to solve the problem. I had to leave the car at the location without any written acknowledgement for the return and file an official complain with both Thrifty and better business bureau to get my money back including the deposit which should have been returned with the car. I finally went to Avis who gave me a car in a perfect condition which could easily be driven even in mountainous roads.Reviewed Jun 13 2017

Thrifty at Quito airport is a rip off!!Pros:The size of the Chevy Spark makes it very easy to park.Cons:The insurance price was double the price of the car. That and I already have car insurance, Geico, that covers my driving in other countries. I did not want the Thrifty Insurance but the agent would not negotiate. Said that I had to take Thrifty's. The 100k per day mileage limit is ridiculous. I ended up driving 660km in five days so they charged me an extra $40, 25 cents a km, such a rip off. Also the car they gave me, Chevy Spark, was terribly on hills. Almost had two different accidents sliding downhill. My advice rent an automatic in Quito from a more reputable rental agent like Hertz.Reviewed Apr 18 2017

Worst car rental ever!!!Cons:1) There was no address for the various Thrifty agencies in Quito on the rental agreement, we couldn't get in touch with anyone, so we spent an hour and lots of taxi dollars trying to find an office. Then, 2) when we finally found one, they said, "Oh, the $72 you paid Kayak for insurance is INTERNATIONAL insurance, which we don't accept (here in Ecuador, presumably), so we had to pay of new insurance to the tune of $150 or so. 3) Then, to top it all off, they said we could only drive 800 kilometers in eight days, or we'd have to pay 25 cents a kilometer above that. A terrible experience.Reviewed Mar 31 2017

Most Pathetic Rental Experience I've Ever HadPros:Van was decent once we finally got it.Cons:Thrifty in Quito did not have the van we reserved once we showed up at the airport at 10 PM, they gave us no warning before hand. They 8 of us drive to Guayquil, 6 hours out of our way to get it. After we returned the van, they charged us $830 for the miles we put on the cars initially to go get the van. Customer service in Ecuador has been ignoring my requests for a refund. Do not use this rental service.Reviewed Mar 2 2017

Verify class of vehicle and total price locally bePros:The car was clean and ready when we got there. The service was friendly and accomodating.Cons:Not mentioned in the online booking process is the mandatory 1st party insurance, which was $20 a day extra. I had purchased third party insurance through Allianz which they did not accept and so I ended up paying twice for insurance. Additionally, the photo of the "premium" car online was a late model Chevy Tahoe / equivalent. The actual "premium" car we received was a Suzuki Grand Vitara - a substantially smaller and less premium vehicle. We were told it would be $100 more a day to have the actual type of vehicle we reserved. Not the local rental counter's fault - their advertising in-location all had the correct vehicles pictured next to their class names - but the international Thrifty website was wrong.Reviewed Feb 14 2017
