If you aren’t familiar with Boston, have your GPS ready. It can be confusing. Also, there are a lot of one way streets, so watch the signs. You always have to be aware of which lane to be in. You might actually have to switch lanes frequently just to drive straight ahead, as lanes that were drive straight lanes turn into turn lanes.

I rented a car to drive home to ME so it’s a non issue but Boston is an extremely difficult city to drive in if you’ve never been here before. There is minimal signage and people from Massachusetts drive very differently. When they want to merge they just do. You must be on the defense at all times. There is always traffic too. You do not need a car if staying in the city proper in fact I’d recommend against it. Between the T and Uber and really just walking, you can get everywhere you need to, plus there really isn’t any parking except expensive garages if you’re lucky enough to find one. And if you’re renting from the airport to go elsewhere you’re fine with GPS. But with GPS trying to find something downtown? Good luck. You’ll be stuck in traffic for days and never find what you’re looking for. If you’re renting a car to drive to the cape especially in busy season I hope your flight is very early or late because you will be stuck in traffic for hours as well

I booked a rental and set the pickup time through Kayak. There was zero mention of the hours for the pickup location and when I arrived at 5 (my scheduled time) I was unable to obtain the vehicle since it was closed. This required me to argue with enterprise on the phone to get the reservation cancelled, additional charges, and then I had to pay for Uber to drive me to the next rental car location which was 24 hours- that was a 3 hour Uber ride.

The check-out person at the garage was very nice.

Cons:

We waited in line for almost 30 minutes to get our car, and the rep, who was very nice, moved at a snails pace. By the time we got to our car, we had to wait another 10+ minutes as there was a line of cars getting checked out to leave the garage. In the end, it took 90 minutes in total from the time I got off my plane until I left the garage with my car.

Was economical. Car was fine, pretty typical rental process.

Cons:

Employees are trained to try to get you to purchase all the useless extras. The counter pickup experience is very slow, with the process sometimes taking 20-30 minutes for a single customer as they try to convince them that the insurance and extras are worth it. It's not that much different than other rental places, but definitely slower and slightly more obnoxious. Still, I'll always go with the cheapest rental.

Our flight was changed due to a storm and when I called Advantage, the phone agent said as long as we picked it up within 24 hours of our original reservation, the car would be held for us and no changes needed to be made for the reservation. However, when we arrived, with our young children who had just traveled by plane, the car had NOT been held for us and we'd been marked down as a "no show." When we told the agent at the desk (Alexandra Garcia in Boston) that we'd called ahead, she said we could pay extra for a more expensive car, but she took no responsibility for the problem and was incredibly rude. What a horribly disappointing experience.

I booked my car for 48 hours, but when I tried to drop it off after 47 hours, I learned the drop off location had closed 30 minutes earlier. Because the location was closed at the expiration time of my reservation, they charged me an extra day It would have been nice, when I picked up the car, if they had pointed out that the return location was going to be closed at 5pm on Saturday, as I could have easily been there by the 4pm closing time.

She was nice enough but then gave me a car that was too big and I took it because I just wanted to get out of there… as I was about to drive out I wanted a smaller car so I had to go back inside (and wait) for the car I originally wanted

The booking you gave me was not in the airport and the pickup time approved and suggested by your booking service was when the Hertz location was closed so I was unable to pick up the reserved vehicle. The entire reason for booking in advance is to ensure I can trust I have a vehicle when I arrive. All of that was lost completely. I lack words to express my disappointment

All agents were nice and provided clear answers and some empathy, so that was good. There was no transparency online of what the collision waiver would cost. It was expensive as expected, but not being able to see my bottom line cost when shopping for reservations is pretty lousy. There was a really long line at the rental car center for pick up, and when we got out to the garage to select a car, the size of car I reserved was not available and there was a really limited choice. I got a much larger car, which I was not thrilled with for efficiency, city parking, and ride quality reasons, but which was usable. The delays meant I left the garage at peak rush hour, and traffic was at a standstill (even within the car rental lot!). After a long overseas flight, not fun. Can’t blame all Boston traffic on the rental car company, but they could have streamlined the pick up process to get us out the door earlier. and they could work with the city to site their property so it doesn’t create or suffer from such bad traffic bottlenecks.

Horrible! We were charged $20 weeks after rental with no reference as to why. We just received another bill for $125 for the sand on the mats. There was snow on the roads and they were sanded. Filing a claim at small claims court

Never saw anything go so smooth. We picked up in Groton CT, dropped off at Logan. And then reversed the pick up and drop off on the return of our trip. 1, 2,3 we were in and out of there. Everyone was very friendly and nice. Nothing to improve on.

The pick up in Boston was horrendous. Waited 30mins for the shuttle which by then was packed even by pre-COVID standards. ZERO safety protocols in place. Then it took another TWO hours in line to get a filthy car with multiple warning lights activated. No thanks.

Our pickup experience was horrible!! At first, the man I spoke with was very nice and picking up the car was easy. I installed the car seat (ridiculous they charge for these, they are legally required for safety) and went to pick up my husband and son at our hotel. When we tried to get my son in the seat, we realized the straps would not tighten properly on the seat. The drivers seat was also too high to the ceiling for my torso height causing my view of the road to be blocked by the rear view mirror. We returned to the rental counter to get a new car seat and swap vehicles. It was 10:05 am or so at this point. We did not get on the road until 11:30AM due to so much back and forth trying to do a simple car seat and vehicle swap. We were repeatedly told to go to the wrong area for assistance, and had to drive through the Boston airport property each time to get there only to be told nobody could help us. It was extremely frustrating and delayed our trip by hours. Our poor toddler was stuck in his car seat for way more time than necessary as a result. Horrible experience.

We rented a compact SUV to be picked up on Friday at 7PM. We arrived to the rental car center to find no lines at all other vendors and a line of what had to be 100 people waiting for cars at Thrifty. There was one poor employee that looked like he was going to cry. The line was long because they had no cars. We received no notification that there were no cars. We were driving at least two hours north to New Hampshire so we made a whole new reservation with Avis. I have been told I can submit that reservation to make up for the difference in price for the purchase at Thrifty. How is this ok when they were significantly overbooked and had no product?! Will never book this way again.

I don't enjoy booking a car by entering my information and credit card online, then getting a text message to filll out more info, take photos of my license, sign, so I can expedite pickup. Then I still have to go to a counter and do all that again. 3 times. Book online, walk to a car and get in. So easy. But no. And I was a given a much smaller car then I anticipated. You have too many classifications of cars that are not clearly delineated when booking. I'll be going with Hertz next time even if they cost more.

Easy pick up and drop off for the most part at the airport except the National employees weren’t at the counter when flights got in making a great many people standing in line for both National and Alamo so the Alamo people could help us.

They had issues with their credit card reader/computer and I had to wait for them to call my credit card company to verify it. This was at 1100pm after a long day of travel.... so it was a little annoying.

Cons:

The car was pretty beat up on the exterior and interior. Good news was they didn’t charge me for the condition of the car. I would have spent most of the rest of night circling things on the form otherwise.

Left iPad in glove compartment. When I returned to the car rental area the iPad hadn't been handed in to the manager or lost property after the car was cleaned which was disappointing. I couldn't check car myself as it had been rented out even though I had returned within 3 hours of having left the car back
