Easy drop off and rental return is right across from Delta terminal.

Cons:

Only problem we had is that the published information on the Salt Lake City location did not indicate they were open 24 hours. I had trouble multiple times connecting to an associate and then ultimately call dropped. When I was able to speak to a person she told me they were open 24 hours so we didn't need to follow the off hours drop off process

Drop off was perfect. The franchise was out of the specific car I had stipulated but provided a larger one. Because I was headed to a mountain ski resort, I needed all wheel or four wheel drive. Apparently, I got the last one. In parts of the country where a lot of visitors will be headed into snow, I would think a rental car company would have plenty all or four wheel drive vehicles available.

I waited at least 25 minutes before the agent acknowledged I was waiting in line. At the time I was the only other customer in line. Another agent just walked past. The rate was different, I couldn't get a printed receipt, overall it took me 1 hour and 25 minutes to get a car. Cars should be backed in to parking spaces. this would help with getting out. Also, as soon as I got in the car the check engine light came on with a request for oil and filter maintenance. I shouldn't have to worry at 9pm if the car I just got is going to run or not.

I would never rent from Avis in Salt Lake City again. They did not have my car available and told me I had to wait. (This is after waiting in line for 30 minutes to reach the counter) After waiting 20 additional minutes I saw another person come through the line and be given the same model car I had ordered without having to wait. When I mentioned this they promptly told me oh yes now your car is ready. When I got to the car there was already a family sitting in it having been told it was their car. 2 of the counter agents I could see were doing their best on a chaotic night but the guy who ‘helped’ me seemed surly, untrained, and uninterested in even appearing to be trying to do his job. In addition, once my vehicle was finally sorted (not what I had ordered) it was an additional 30 minute wait with 20 plus angry Avis customers trying to exit out one gate with each ‘transaction’ with the exiting gate keeper appear to take 5 -10 minutes.

I had a blowout on the freeway shortly after picking up the vehicle. Realized then they had rented me a car with no spare tire and I had to get towed at 10:30 at night. The next day they sent a tow truck to pick up the vehicle, but made me get my own ride to the airport to pick up a new rental. They did offer to pay for an Uber, but it was incredibly inconvenient. I had originally been told they would deliver me a new rental, but then they said they didn’t have the staff to do that. It literally took half a day to get all the arrangements in place and pick up the new car. After all that inconvenience, they only refunded me $120 from a two week rental. I will never, never, never, rent from Payless again.

My flight was delayed until 2.5 hrs after the rental office closed. I called and tried to change the pick up time until the next morning. They told me that was fine but to price would have to go up by almost double. When I asked why using the same car for less time would cost twice as much, he stated he could only do what the computer allowed. I asked to talk to the supervisor and he said sure and then it hung up. I found a different car rental for less money and a nicer car.

Airport pickup took an HOUR. Every other rental company had minimal to no lines but the thrifty/dollar rental desk had a super long, slow line. We were late to our event because of it. If I were doing again I would pay a little more to rent from another company at the Salt Lake airport. Once we actually got the car everything was fine.

The pickup at Salt Lake City airport had 1 attendant for 30 people, then the manager on duty arrived and helped. The attendants did the best they could with the crowd they had to manage.

Cons:

We had potential safety issues with our car when 4 and a half hours away from a rental office. We repeatedly were disconnected from service agents on the phone, and NO FOLLOWUP when this happened. Had to spend several hours on hold with NO resolution and, I repeat, NO FOLLOWUP. The safety issue turned out to be OK, but Thrifty was not interested in the least to help us ensure our safety was assured and our vacation plans not totally upended.

I was in line for over 1 hour to pick up the car in SLC.....unsatisfactory! Everyone in line had reservations, so not sure how "manning the booth" during this period was not better predicted. If I hadn't prepaid, I would have moved over to another vendor. Agents did their best to keep things moving and were courteous. I appreciate the gesture of an upgrade, but didn't really need it.

The pick-up process was awful and very poorly managed, but the car was clean and the drop-off was convenient.

Cons:

I waited in line for over an hour and a half to pick up my car, causing me to miss an activity on the first day of my trip. There was one person servicing a line of 30+ people until a second person (the manager) finally showed up to help once the line looked like it was close to 50 people. She was unapologetic for the wait and cited the fact that they are the cheapest as the justification for being severely understaffed to manage the number of reservations for that day/time. The counter itself looked like it was meant to accommodate at least 6 agents. After the long wait, when I finally got to the counter, they didn't have the type of car (mid-class) I had reserved for myself. While their prices are competitive I'm not sure I would book with them again in this location.

Cons:

The line to pickup was ridiculous! Only had 2 employees working the front desk and had long lines for pick up. Took me an hour till I was seen and able to get my rental. Also dropping off was terrible! Had a flight at 5:30am came to the airport for drop off and the drop off for hertz was closed. Waited till 4:30 and eventually had to just park it at the only open rental parking which was budget. Barely made my flight. Had me and my family and kids running to not miss our flight. Not acceptable!

I reserved an “intermediate SUV” on Kayak, but Dollar (fulfilled by Thrifty?) only has a Compact/Intermediate SUV class—so naturally they provide a compact SUV.

Rental counter was closed when my flight arrived late (past midnight). I would expect a ‘major’ airport such as SLC would have coverage for later flights. With nobody available in-person and a typically frustrating phone call to a computer only, we had to stay the night nearby and rent my vehicle the next day. No change in rental costs, no acknowledgement of the hassle, simply “tough luck, you want the vehicle or not”.

Reservations give a company a pretty good idea of how busy they will be on any given day. We picked up our car on a Friday with a convention in town, why are they understaffed on a day like this? It took over an hour to get to my car. They might have made a profit that day, but I will think twice before going with Dollar/ Thrifty again.

The man who helped me at the counter in SLC who I believe is named Joshua Da Jemente, is very slow and incommunicative which makes for a very frustrating customer service experience. I have dealt with him twice in 3 months, same situation both times. Fortunately the man downstairs in the garage, Frank, was very helpful, and although overall I had to wait an hour for my car, which I had reserved for earlier than I arrived at the counter, he got me into the car relatively quickly once I went downstairs. I strongly urge Budget to look into this franchise. After 15 minutes of paperwork (!), the man at the counter finally tried to call downstairs to determine which car was ready for me to use. No one answered. He seemed helpless. The other person at the counter had left, so he was by himself. He finally went inside the office and a woman came out and communicated to me what was happening: a car was in fact being prepared, and once the car was ready, I'd be escorted downstairs with my paperwork, which seems totally unnecessary. Give it to the customer, they can take it to the car and drive off. They finally said I could go downstairs to the garage and wait there and my paperwork would follow, that the guy who was "helping" me would bring it. I was very doubtful and frustrated. When I got to the garage office, the man there, Frank, immediately responded, made sure the car was being cleaned and did the paperwork himself, printed it out, and once the car was ready - just 5-10 mins later, got me in it and helped me hoist my luggage up into the HUGE car. The final issue that I am frustrated by is that I reserved a Chevy Impala and was given a Ford Expedition which is massive and not comfortable to drive as it is far too big. I had no choice but to take what I was given and get on the road. Due to Budget, I had already lost an additional hour and 15 minutes of daylight. Why is the car not ready, set aside, with contract and keys for me when I arrive at the counter? This franchise at SLC airport seems poorly managed - or maybe they need to update the inventory that they tell Kayak is available, as clearly the car I booked was not available.

The car had a lot of bird poop on it. Also, what we reserved was unavailable, so we had to spend more money on gas for a larger car with no adjustment to our rental rate. Besides that, though, it was great. The truck was in perfect condition and very clean.

SIXT has a brand new facility at SLC. The pick up information was lacking on where to pick up the car. They have their own shuttle to take you to their offsite location. shuttle. They do not have a phone number for the local office. The only number I could find was their 1-800 that never picked up. The SIXT shuttle location was on the side of the main car rental garage. WALK though the main rental car pick up area and head to the right side of that same level to locate “offsite shuttle”. The shuttle was waiting there for me. It took 5 minutes to get to the offsite facility. If you can’t find it, take an Uber to their offsite office. I saw one customer do this. We were greeted with a warm welcome and great efficiency. Car was clean and easy to drive. I would rent from them again.

My husband called an hour before pickup to make sure they had 4wd or allwheel. Instead of just checking to verify, they said oh there is a 95% Chance there will be a one. Well I arrived with 4 vehicles to choose from. None 4wd or awd. Very frustrating since I had to drive to Denver in a snow storm. would have went with another company had i known. It’s Utah, please have 4wd vehicles.

I was charged twice for my rental car and was not offered any help. I showed the woman helping me when i was picking up the car that I had been charged twice, yet she assured me that one of the charges would disappear. The charge never dropped and it took away all of the money I had for my weekend. I called back the next day to ask if they can help, and they said it was up to me to fix it and I had to call my bank to figure it out.

They tried giving me a smaller suv compared to the full size I paid for. I had to wait 30 minutes for them to get it ready and once it was pulled up nothing had been done. SUV was filthy and gas tank was under a quarter left.

Cons:

Our flight arrived at 1:15AM and Firefly's hours were until 2:00 AM. They decided to close early and left many families stranded at the airport. We ended up using Budget and paying more because we did not have a reservation. When we called Firefly, the number did not lead to the SLC location and the person kept telling us on the phone that they should be there and that they were on a break. We waited more than 10 minutes. Budget told us they left for the day/eve. Bad service. Don't use them unless you're sure they will be open.
