Book Hertz car rentals in Punta Cana

Pros: I didn't like that it was a very misleading experience. I booked through Kayak.com at a price and when I got to Hertz they said that they couldn't give me the value I was offered on the website and charged me double of what I expecting to pay.

Pros: Convenience, dropped it off at a different location

Cons: The insurance we reserved was a joke. It was 10 dollars a day on the Kayak site only to find out when we got to the Hertz facility they wanted to charge more for insurance than the entire car rental price. We had 2 dents on the car that I told the hertz guy about. He saw them and agreed, but didn't add them to the damage sheet! So, at the other end, they are trying to charge us for dents that I have pictures of on my phone! The language barrier was a joke. If I have to pay for damage that was already on the car, I'll be coming back to Hertz for this.

Pros: Honesty upon return

Cons: Was quoted a price and when I picked up the car I was downgraded to an suv that was not close to a “Tahoe or similar vehicle”. I was forced to sign into multiple types of coverages that according to the rep were mandatory. Price more than doubled from quite. Rep on return advised none were mandatory

Cons: No windshield washer fluid. Car dirty when delivered an said it was due to rain. It was due to being lazy. Thrifty car when we rented a Hertz. No cruise control.,, come on in 2018??? Screwed us on the insurance by requiring it even though we had an Alliance policy that was sold through you but they made us buy their policy. Totally poor and won’t ever do it again!!

Cons: Booked one month rental on line for $518. Local Hertz operator wanted $2200 when I went to pick up the car. They sited “insurance” as the reason, even though I had insurance and Amex insurance. I informed Hertz and rented from a private party for $1000/mo.

Cons: Be. Careful. I went with a reservation and my total amount doubled.

Awful. Don’t ever use them. They’re thieves.

Cons: They didn’t honor the price I had on kayak. It was awful. Rude and mean people. Don’t use them.

Overcharged

Pros: Car was there, got an SUV as requested. Tank was full, car was clean.

Cons: Upon arrival I was informed of new charges which I was supposedly obligated to take, and would come off the deposit amount at the vehicle return. Once the car was returned I was informed I was never obligated to take such insurances/extra charges and I was given wrong info. It was too late to remove such charges. Payed about double the price.

Pros: since hurts did not provide me the Car that I reserved with over 1 month in advance I had to go to another agency called AMERIRENT. They were very helpful. When I returned the car rental was far away from the or report and they drove me to the terminal.

A complete ripoff

By far the worst experience I've had with Hertz

Pros: The car was large enough to fit 3 people and all the luggage comfortably.

Cons: I was given a price of $202 when I rented the car.I spoke to a Hertz Club Gold booking agent and they confirmed the price. Once I arrived at the Punta Cana airport: 1.) We waited over 45 minutes for someone to help us. There was nobody at the counter for 30 minutes. Then someone was who was helping another customer walked up, completely ignoring us. She was extremely slow and looked very inexperienced. Another Hertz representative showed up about 15-20 minutes later. 2.) The representative that helped us said that the price we received from the Hertz Club Gold member was just to reserve the car and the price of the car is actually more. I showed him my email receipt and he still said that's not what it shows on his screen. After that, he started adding all of these additional charges including insurance, gas option and a 28% tax. I told him I wanted to decline the insurance and gas options and he said that I could not an that I had to because it's a law in the Dominican Republic.I told him that none of this was ever communicated to me and I would have changed my travel plans to not use a rental car if I knew this was the case. I was stuck at this point and needed to pay for the car which now has cost me around $300 additional to the $202 I originally reserved. 3.) The car I was given was in terrible shape. Not only were there dents on the exterior but the inside was dirty and there were stains all over the seats. The driver side floor mat was not meant for the car. It partially covered the gas pedal and made it dangerous to drive. on top of all of this, the tires were bald and the car slide many times when I was braking. I have pictures of the dents in the exterior, floor mat and tires as proof. Additionally, I was only given the key to the car and not given the keyless entry module. This was absolutely the worst experience I've ever had renting a car and I was expecting much better service and vehicle since I was renting through Hertz. Also, the website and Hertz Club Gold representative should have explained the insurance and tax scams before renting the car. I will not be using Hertz in the future due to this experience.
