Pros:The Car worked okay and got great mileage and the staff really tried to help - they were just understaffed for the amount # of cars going out and coming in.Cons:The 7 passenger Van was 2.5 hours late in getting to my pickup location. I did not receive a call until I arrived in the parking lot at 9:00 a.m. to pick it up. I had to return and I actually picked it up at about 11:30 a.m. and spent a about 30-45 minutes waiting as they were totally understaffed. The care worked fine, but was smaller than what was advertised - it was definitely not an equal to the model advertised which was a Nissan Pathfinder.Reviewed Apr 12 2021

Cons:I said that our experience was fair overall because we were given information that was not accurate by the 1-800 Hertz number. We rented a car since we would be traveling to a location that required an AWD or 4WD car. I called the local Hertz office and it transferred me to the 1-800 number. When I talked to that office and explained that we needed a 4WD car the person I talked to said that if we rented any SUV that it was a 4WD car. When I went to my local office to pick up the car they told me that I had been given inaccurate information and that they did not have a 4WD car for us. Totally Rude Agent & Unclear Policy on Debit Card AcceptancePros:Nothing at all. The agent was by far the most unfriendly customer service person I've ever dealt with. In his defense I must say he appeared to be the only employee working that day.Cons:Went to pick up my reserved car ahead of schedule. The agent was on the phone when we arrived and someone was there waiting ahead of me. After he finished working with her, I went to get my car. I attempted to pay with a debit card. I had $200 + the cost of the rental on the card because the Hertz website said I needed it. An hour before I needed to be on the road I was rejected from renting a car. The agent printed out a piece of paper, said "we can't rent to you and I'm supposed to give you this" and sent me on my way to run around town looking for rental cars at 2 more places that were either out of cars or had very expensive options. I almost lost a very important client because of this bs. I will NEVER rent from Hertz or book a car through Kayak again. Very disappointed in the lack of explanation of the policies from both Hertz and KayakReviewed Apr 28 2018

Value for money impacted by drop off issues.Pros:Price for basic compact was competitive.Cons:I picked up by car at 12.59 pm on a weekday and was scheduled for return on a Sat. Associate did not tell me that location closed at noon on Saturday although we discussed return time or that after-hours drop off allowed wasn’t allowed. On finding location closed on return, I almost left my key and paperwork in Express Drop Box, but read the fine print on the contract which indicated that I could be charged for rental until location reopened on Monday morning. After 45 minutes on the phone with a helpful (but slow!!!) rep, I was given permission to return vehicle several miles away at Charlottesville Airport with no additional or late charget. The extra hour added to a sinmple drop off would have been a problem if I had been on a schedule. Nowhere did I see indication (except vague “you May be charged” wording on contract about extra charges for return when location was closed. The Rapid Return Drop Box implied that it was OK to use without additional cost which is misleading!Reviewed Oct 31 2017
