You will find driving in Sardinia is different to what you are used to in the UK. One of the main differences is that you will be driving on the right side of the road rather than the left. If you are driving in an urban area you must not drive faster than 50km/h (31mph), single carriageway roads in rural areas have a speed limit of 90km/h (56mph), whereas dual carriageways have a limit of 120kph (75mph).

Different car hire agencies tend to have different rules about how old you have to be to hire a car, so it is worth checking each one to see if you are old enough. In general, you need to be 21 to hire a car on the island. Although if you hire a car with some companies you are able to do so from the age of 18, albeit with a limited selection of cars to choose from. It is also likely that you will need to pay a surcharge when hiring a car if you are under a certain age. For instance, other companies will charge anyone younger than 25 a surcharge when hiring a car in Sardinia.
