Rental was pretty seamless. Agent in NY was super helpful, wish I remembered her name. Only complaint would be not informing customer that they’re reserving an electric vehicle. I didn’t find that out until getting to Dollar. A change can be made for a fee though and if a regular vehicle is available.Reviewed Jul 20 2024

They required me to pay an additional hundred dollars upon arrival to get the car. Thus, the amount that was charged me by KAYAK turned out to be false.Reviewed Jul 20 2024

Over an hour wait for shuttle from the airport and 5 calls. Had to switch 3 cars on pickup first received the wrong car transmission and then a car with engine noise.Reviewed Jul 19 2024

The car was excellent, however it's controls were quite different from the car I'm used to. It would have been nice to have had someone explain the operation of the car to me.Reviewed Jul 18 2024

Drop off was easy. Other than that, horrible experience. Did web check in so I could skip the line (their words). Ha! Had to wait in 2 lines. Took over an hour. Then was given a car with over 60K miles, no floor mats, holes in the interior , weird stains everywhere. I would have taken it back or refused it but we were already tired of waiting in line.Reviewed Jul 17 2024

I thought Dollar rent a car did a great job in regards to the experience picking up the car and dropping it off, the only negative that I have for them is that they are not at the airport!! They are about 5 minutes down the road but that was not given in the information from kayak. There's a shuttle that picks you up at the airport and it comes every 15 minutes. But for the day that I arrived it took about a half an hour or more for the shuttle to arrive. So with that said, the car they provided was great. The experience checking in and out was great but it needs to be stated that they are not at the airport.Reviewed Jul 17 2024

Nothing. Kayak pulled a fast one on me. They pulled a bait and switch. Worst experience for a car rental. I ordered a passenger van for at least 8 people and the description said Ford Transit of something similar. They had a picture of the van plus the description on the Kayak website. Payed up front for the rental and I called dollar Rental a week before my vacation trip to verify that they still had my van. The representative at Dollar assured me that it would be a Ford transit van for at least 8 people. Walked into Dollar rental on the day of and they had a Chysler van for us. Nothing remotely close to the Ford Transit passenger van! I ask the manager and they told me that they never have those on their lot. That Kayak does this all the time. Bait and switch. Had to upgrade to a bigger vehicle because they would not honor the Kayak website deal. Spend an extra $900 on top of the $500 for the Kayak website deal. Horrible experience, and I will never rent a car from Kayak or Dollar rental again. Not goodReviewed Jul 16 2024

Checkin (done by internet was somewhat smooth, which made the whole process faster). But Dollar needs an app! The web process is hardly perfect and froze partway through the first time. As for SFO, the rental garage is consistently mislabeled -- multiple signs claim that Dollar pickup is on 3rd floor when it is in fact on the 1st floor! Seriously, how is stupidity of this sort possible? Why was this not fixed on DAY ONE?Reviewed Jul 16 2024

First car was after hours and not cleaned or gassed. Sticky tar under driver's foot. Had to bring it back next day. But they did handle it well then.Reviewed Jul 16 2024

Top tips for renting a car from Dollar in Pittsburgh

  • Pittsburgh is under 60 square miles, which makes it significantly smaller than other big Pennsylvania cities like Philadelphia in terms of size. But it’s the second most populated city in the state. The streets in Pittsburgh can become congested at times, as the traffic in the area has gotten worse in recent years. When you book Dollar car rentals in Pittsburgh, it would be worth looking into the possibility of securing a compact car or, at the very least, a standard-size car that will be easy to drive around in and park.
  • While compact and standard-size rental cars will be ideal for many people renting vehicles in the Pittsburgh area, Dollar will be able to extend many other options to those in need of rental cars. From full-size cars to standard station wagons to full-size SUVs, you will be able to choose the type of vehicle that will work best for your needs. Dollar can’t always guarantee they’ll have a specific make and model, but a representative will work to find you the type of rental car that you’re in the market for.
  • The Pennsylvania Turnpike runs through Pittsburgh and helps connect it to some other large cities in the state, including Philadelphia and Harrisburg. If you plan to use the PA Turnpike at all when you’re in Pittsburgh, you will be subjected to tolls. Dollar has a special PlatePass program that will help you pay these tolls without having to worry about scrambling for cash. When you sign up for this program, it’ll take care of toll payments for a small fee and provide you with peace of mind.
  • Driving around in Pittsburgh can be a lot more confusing than driving in some other cities. The streets weren’t originally set up on a grid system, and there are between 400 and 500 bridges in the city, which may result in your getting lost if you take even a single wrong turn. When you book Dollar car rentals in Pittsburgh, you can request Dollar Connect GPS, which will help you navigate your way around town without you ending up on a bridge you would rather not cross.
  • Mini rental cars from Dollar in Pittsburgh are around -24% cheaper than other car types, on average.
