Terrible pick up experience in Slovakia
Pros: The car we rented was excellent quality and in wonderful condition.
Cons: The pickup experience was terrible. The Avis location we booked was closed on the day of pickup without explanation. The Avis customer service was unable to call the physical branch location "due to security concerns"... whatever that means. We had to travel to another location in order to track down a representative. When they called the owner of the other location, it turned out they had not come in that day because they didn't think they had any rentals. Once that owner took us back to the first location, the paperwork process took an absolutely ridiculous amount of time - I could have purchased a car in that time. The whole ordeal took well over two hours.
Total rip off
Pros: The car
Cons: The totally unprofessional behaviour of the employees, didn't provide any information about drop off or anything else regarding the renting of the car.
Cons: Be careful - don't rent car in Slovakia with this company!!!
They will suggest you GPS, despite there is embedded GPS in the car,
if you not pay for insurance they will scratch the car and extra charge you!
unacceptable booking procedure
Pros: The agent in Bratislava was empathetic and put in a difficult spot
Cons: I had booked a car through Kayak to pick up a car in Bratislava and drop in off in Lviv Ukraine; we had planned our trip according to this schedule. When we arrived at the Avis location, the rep informed up that it is impossible to pick up a car in Slovakia and drop off in Ukraine and that there's nothing we could do. While I understand this conceptually, it's alarming that at no point in the booking process, did anyone let us know that we wouldn't be allowed to drive and drop off in Ukraine (rep said there's a small chance we'd be allowed through the border but even then we'd incur a eur480 drop off fee). Again, I understand this but it's unacceptable that at no point, were we notified about potential border crossing issues and unavailable drop off. As a result, our only option was a 5 hour Uber drive to Poland (followed by another 4 hours Uber drive and then train...) which cost significantly more than originally anticipated. Not sure if fault lies on Avis, Kayak or perhaps myself but if you're planning a similar trip, please be aware
Worth service ever
Cons: Rude employee, they did not provide me with the car because they stated that the price is very low and they wanted to charge mw double. Deposit jumps from 500 to 1200. Front desk employee refused to call him manager or provide me with the car. Had to leave the office by taxi. Worth service ever.
Pros: Good value for the money, reasonably agile and comfortable, good gas mileage.
Cons: The car was unprepared for arctic cold wave in Slovakia. Almost any windshield washer fluid was initially in the car reservoir. Customer representative failed to return to me my driver license and the ID card/passport after copying. Had to make unplanned return to the BTS airport and pick up my ID documents from Avis.
Pros: Renting my car after putting an order from internet was smoothless. They totally accepted my order from the USA and car was ready as promissed in Bratislava on Soberiniho location on selected date. For that price I woud do it gladly again.
Cons: They looked suspicious after returning a car and checked for tiniest invisible scratches. Nothing was found but stiil after renting a car many times in the USA this was weird and I don't know what they would do if I just return their car with "droping a key" option. Should I be worried about created extra charges then or what?
