Hiring a car in Yorkshire is a perfect way to discover the local area, with its many national parks, including the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors.  You will also have the freedom to explore the coastal regions of Whitby or Flamborough, which are noted specifically for native bird habitats and impressive coves along the coastline.  If you happen to be connecting from Leeds/Bradford Airport, the M62 will easily take you from West to East Yorkshire.  You will also be on the doorstep for the Yorkshire Dales from Leeds which is less than one hour’s drive along the A660 and A65.  Harrogate is also just a half hour drive along the A58 and A61, which is noted as an area of outstanding beauty and famous for its Victorian Spa.

The motorways and A-roads of Yorkshire are very well connected to all the major cities and towns in the region, and all are toll free, except for the Humber Bridge in Hull, East Yorkshire which requires a fee to cross.  Driving is on the left in the United Kingdom, and you will find that the roads are generally of a good quality.  You may find in rural or countryside areas, that roads can be narrower and more bendy, so if you plan to head out to more of these areas, a 4x4 may be a good idea.  Potholes can be a regular feature of many country roads due to frequent rainfall in the area, so a sturdy vehicle is always a good option.  Road signage is usually very well marked, even in rural areas.

You must be 21 years of age to hire a car in the United Kingdom and have held your licence for at least one year.  Some car hire companies may stipulate a higher age group for renting certain vehicle categories and you may be subject to a surcharge if under 25.  A full valid driving licence is required, along with adequate insurance, and a credit card to complete your booking.
