Originally known as the American Seaman’s Friend Society Sailors’ Home and Institute, the building was planned by William A. Boring, the famous architect that was also responsible for the Ellis Island’s immigrant station. Although the hotel was initially built for the purpose of housing sailors, it was renovated in 2008, allowing the building to keep its original charm while also being equipped with modern amenities.
