Kos car rentals

When you are driving in Kos, you will notice that it is a little bit different to driving back in the United Kingdom. Not only do the cars drive on the opposite side of the road, but you will also notice that the steering wheel is on the left side of the car, rather than the right. The speed limits on the island are similar to that of the UK, though, so you should be comfortable at the speeds you are allowed to drive. In urban areas, you can drive no faster than 50 km/h (31 mph), whilst outside of these areas, the speed limit is 110 km/h (70 mph). Make sure you keep an eye out for the speed limit signs, which will inform you of any changes as you drive around the island.

You should hire a car in Kos as it provides you with the opportunity to explore every corner of the island at your own pace, rather than relying on other modes of transport, such as buses. For example, if you are staying in Kos Town, then you can visit the secluded Paradise Beach in about 1h 11min. If you were travelling by bus, for example, this would take much longer. It would also be quite expensive to do this journey as a return taxi trip, so a car makes this more cost effective.

Make sure you check the minimum age requirements of the car hire agencies before you arrive at the island, as they are likely to vary from agency to agency. In general, you need to be at least 21 years of age to hire a vehicle in Kos, but some companies will require you to be older. There is also likely to be a surcharge if you are under a certain age, such as 23, which you will have to pay alongside the standard rate. For drivers that are below 25, there will also be a smaller selection of cars to pick from, due to many agencies reserving the more powerful vehicles for older drivers.

Mini (Toyota Aygo or similar) is the most frequently booked rental car type in Kos.
