KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in Vieux Fort

  • Car hire in Vieux Fort offers several advantages over alternative transport options. While public transport is available, it may not provide convenient access to all attractions. Hiring a car allows you to explore places like the picturesque Maria Islands Nature Reserve, which is inaccessible by public transport. With Vieux Fort car hire, you have the freedom to visit places that are not accessible by public transport, such as the beautiful Maria Islands and Tet Paul Nature Trail.
  • Upon arriving at Hewanorra International Airport (UVF), you'll find the car hire desks conveniently located in the arrivals area. Companies like Budget and Avis have their desks near the luggage claim, while the SIXT desk is situated near the exit. After picking up your hire car, head to the George F. L. Charles Airport Car Park, where you will find the car hire vehicles just a short walk away. This car park offers safe and secure parking facilities for your hired car.
  • When travelling via car hire in Vieux Fort, be mindful of pedestrians in bustling areas like La Promenade and Main Street. Cyclists are prevalent along the Vieux Fort-Soufrière Highway, offering scenic views. The road systems in this country are well-maintained, ensuring smooth travel. One unique element of driving in Vieux Fort is the stunning coastal drive along the East Coast Road, where you can enjoy breathtaking vistas of the Atlantic Ocean. Embrace the relaxed nature of local drivers and savour the remarkable driving experience amidst Vieux Fort's captivating scenery.
  • Rush hour in Vieux Fort typically occurs from 7:30 to 9:30 and 16:30 to 18:30, affecting roads like Bridge Street and Laborie Highway. These periods of congestion are at their worst during high tourist periods from December to April. During the rainy season, roads like Vieux Fort-Soufrière Highway may experience reduced visibility. However, Vieux Fort generally offers favourable driving conditions, with no major difficulties caused by extreme weather or treacherous mountain roads. One unique challenge is manoeuvring through the narrow Micoud Street, where careful navigation is required.

This was the worst rental car experience I’ve ever had! Let me start with the good: the only good were the nice workers at the rental counter at the airport. The car was all beat up all around. The car was old and had 78, 000 approximately kilometers on it. The car struggled to go up hills, worrying us that we would even get to the resort. The car had no way to charge our devices: no type of USB ports at all. Two of the wheel covers were held on with zip ties. I get that we were on an island, but this is not what I expect when I rent a car from thrifty! Also, there was no mention when I rented the car that we would have to put a $2000 hold on our card during the rental. Once we got to the airport.

It was not clear I would need to refuel before drop off and the prices for the refuel were stupid, even with today’s current climate.

We had to cancel our trip due to COVID and Sixth refused to refund our money or even a portion per their policy. They simply responded with "we know this isn't the answer you want however, we're not refunding any of your payment due to sound business practices". Customer service is a joke as it's basically non existent and forced to exchange emails. Terrible experience and I would never rent from this joke of a so called rental car company. Truly horrible. Do yourself a favor and avoid.

I was told I may have to pay $150.00 in U S dollars to clean the sand off the floor matt. I was not informed about that upon renting the vehicle. The spare tire was not inspected upon renting the vehicle. I returned the vehicle and was told the spare was flat. I don't know if there was a leak in the tire. It was never inspected upon renting the vehicle. Now I am excited to pay for a tire. Very disappointed with my experience.
