- Tivat is a small resort town on the south-west coast of Montenegro, so the first thing you’ll want to do when planning a trip there is to book a hire car – because while you’ll find plenty of ferries to take you along the Adriatic Coast, that’s about all the public transport you’ll find. Car hire in Tivat will allow you to make your own way and to head inland on day trips to some of the glacial lakes in the area. One such is Black Lake and Djurdjevica Tara Bridge in the Durmitor National Park, which will take about 2h to reach by car. Skadar Lake is a real beauty too, about 3h out. Conversely in the centre of Tivat you’ll enjoy the relaxed vibe in the main tourist area of Pine Embankment.
- Your Tivat visit will start as you land at Tivat International Airport, known since it was built as the Gate of the Adriatic. It also couldn’t be easier to locate the operator with whom you’ve booked your Tivat car hire. As you exit customs the Avis, Budget, Hertz, Sixt and other kiosks will be immediately on your right, opposite the rest rooms and adjacent to the terminal exit. The parking lot where you can collect your car is about a 2-minute walk to your left as you exit the building. From there it’s a mere 5-minute drive to central Tivat.
- Tivat isn’t only one of the most popular tourist resorts on the eastern Adriatic coast; it’s also grown into the major centre of nautical tourism in the region. So if you’re heading in that direction, it’s best to park a little way away and walk the rest of the quarter mile or so. Arsenalska runs along the harbour front, and the only access point is by taking Istarska. The latter can get a tad busy where the larger Njegoseva main road joins it.

I didn't rent the car at all as I couldn't get in touch with the rep in TIvat. I did find him on the airport when I landed, but I had already booked something else. In any case there is a catch with the price - need to rent the winter equipment, so in the end the price is not so good at all.Budget
