DO NOT rent exactly at the airport, go 15-30 minutes out (around airport). Why? Because a taxi can drive on a HOV lane and take you to your destination (to go get your rental car in no time at all:) Now I’m thinking everyone will know my secret 🤣 but it is good to share.

  • Fortunately for travelers looking to rent a car after landing in Montreal, the hire car desks are located right within the airport’s baggage claim terminal, meaning you don’t have to take a shuttle or bus to reach an off-site hire car center. After collecting your luggage, the signs will lead you to the hire car desks and from there it is a short walk downstairs to the hire garage.
  • Drivers should beware that right turns on red are not allowed on the actual island of Montreal. Outside the island and in neighboring areas, right turns on red are allowed, but on the island it is strictly forbidden.
  • Rush hour can be rough in Montreal as it has rated among the most congested cities in Canada. Overall OK. But I made my reservation via Kayak, and Enterprise didn't have any details of the reservation. Needed to fill out the forms again, which took time. The most important - they didn't have any information about the protection I purchased via Kayak, I had to take another coverage directly via Enterprise not to take a risk. Till today I have no idea if I was charged twice. Confusing.

They over charged me, after I returned the car with full gas tank they changed my credit card $269 for gas so instead of paying $143 i paid $400 no clue why

When I arrived to pick up the car I was forced to wait over an hour for a car to be available. The entire waiting area at Thrifty/Hertz was packed with people sitting around waiting for their cars, as though it was a surprise that people showed up for their reservations. All of the other rental car counters were generally empty. Those companies moved their customers in and out. So it wasn’t just a busy day — those other companies were there in the same conditions.
